Med School Study the Easy or Hard First Before a Block Exam
Hi, I'm Dr. Lakshya Trivedi
I am the founder of TheMDJourney.com and am currently an internal medicine resident.
I too have been at that dark place in medical school before.
- Long hours.
- Grades…not where I wanted them to be.
- Stress higher than some of my patient's blood pressure.
- A severe lack of motivation. And an excess of doubt.
There had to be a better way to be a successful med student – right?
I started TheMDJourney as a 2nd-year med student to document my progress, strategies, and share my journey.
Through the process – I both succeeded and failed.
And I shared all of it.
What works and what doesn't.
In fact – here's where I started…
When I started med school I was spending 8-10 hours a day studying!
I thought that was normal! (Little did I know)
But my grades didn't reflect my effort.
I was barely passing my exams.
I felt helpless and like an imposter!
I couldn't seem to remember anything.
"Maybe I just wasn't smart enough!" I would say.
Can you relate?
But after I finished feeling sorry for myself, I started to make some changes.
I transformed everything I was doing bit by bit!
The results?
I finally figured it out!
I finished med school with a 3.9 GPA, high Step 1 scores, honors in my rotations, and got into my #1 residency choice!
Now I take my successes and failures to help students just like you thrive in medical school!
Over the past 3 years, I've coached and taught students on how to perfect their studying, productivity, board prep, and succeed on their clinical rotations.
Now I want to help you do the same!

I Bought Your Med School Domination Bundle and It Is Amazing! I Can't Wait To Try [The Techniques] Out
I spent the last few days researching how to actually study in medical school and I came across your stuff... I read The Preclinical Guide and Study Tools in the Domination Bundle.. what I felt while reading the text is nothing short of disbelief. How did I not know about these methods sooner? Not during my undergrad, graduate school and at least not yet in medical school has anyone ever attempted to teach students how to learn the material efficiently. So for your enlightenment, I say thank you.
This bundle not only helps students who are starting med school —it can also be really useful for M3s and M4s like me. I've enhanced my study strategy! I'm now on my way to becoming a more efficient student, so a million times thank you. I 100% recommend this bundle to anyone who wants to get the most out of med school... and life outside of it
From beginning to end, the bundle and books provides meaningful insight for medical students of all stages with wit, grace and the stimuli of example pictures. Additionally, the brief description of each chapter aides the reader on how they can navigate the resources as efficiently as possible. A great read and tool, indeed.
The tools and tips in this bundle are invaluable. If you are a first year med student like myself or in your clinical rotations, this bundle is a precursor toward a successful medical career. I was trying to find my study niche and this bundle and books helped me do just that. I look forward to seeing the results after apply these methods.
Overall, this books and bundle have been great! I have only gotten to Part 2, but out of what I have read, I have jotted down SO many tips/notes that I will be trying out once I start med school next month. I would highly recommend this bundle and the books to every incoming medical student!
The study techniques he described make a lot of sense! I have actually used a variation of some of the study techniques he mentioned in his book while I was in college. Although I did very well in college, I had some flaws in my studying that would have led to really long days in med school. This bundle helped me see some of the mistakes I unknowingly made while studying in college, and I really think his methods will help me do well in med school while still having a lot of free time to live a fun and adventurous life too!
I am both grateful and surprised by Med School Bundle. The Preclinical Guide inside the bundle is truly a phenomenal book. I just wished I knew about it sooner. I could have used some of the study tips [earlier] because they are applicable to any subject. It would have saved me time and the stress I went through with before exam time. I especially liked that the book tackled burning questions I had on how to do well in particular preclinical classes. The book gave the confidence I needed as a first-year medical student...to become an academically strong medical student.
I Bought Your Med School Domination Bundle and It Is Amazing! I Can't Wait To Try [The Techniques] Out
I got an A overall my first semester of medical school by following the study techniques in Domination Bundle - especially the Preclinical Guide! But more importantly, this way of approaching medicine redefined success to me, where I don't have to sacrifice my peace of mind to succeed. Thank you so much!
The bundle and ebooks helped me to organize my study sessions and retain more information. Because of the information in these books, I increased my grades from C- to A-.
I thought they were very concise and have well targeted strategies, well explained.
I really enjoyed learning how to approach my education differently. I had a lot of difficulties with my study habits (all-nighters before assignments, tests and exams) and I was usually able to achieve relatively good grades back in high school and my first year of university. However university was a lot more difficult which made my studying non sufficient and I felt as though I was falling behind the other pre-meds. Your bundle allowed me to find my weaknesses and adjust my studying techniques accordingly. The lessons made the tutorials feel like I was being coached by a guidance counselor (a relatively rare resource on campus) and I appreciate that.
Great resources! They had a good amount of info that helps us plan out what we need to do in order to do well on Step 1, do well in pre-clinical years and on excelling on our clinical rotations!
I especially liked the advice on how to study during preclinicals. The emphasis on active learning has shaped my study strategies and has helped me do better in my classes. I also liked your review of the different step 1 resources like First Aid, Pathoma, etc.
EXCELLENT!
After mind mapping, taking notes on the computer, taking notes on a tablet, pre-reading lecture notes, making diagrams, I was lost on how to study because each method was simply too time consuming. Your Anki method from TheMDJourney Domination Bundle is working for me and giving me hope that having a life in medical school is possible! I have tried 10+ study methods gathered over the internet, from my classmates, and even from other books regarding using Anki to study for medical school. So far your system, from the Domination Bundle and Level Up Your Studying course, has worked best for me and it has led to a significant increase in my grades and confidence.
The books and bundle was highly entertaining and engaging, it gave a slight comedic twist to issues I'm struggling with and thus made me feel less discouraged. As a 1st year med student, the majority of my classes is extremely theoretical, and this provided me with a blueprint on how to address studying preparation.
Very good! You summarized a wide variety of skills and tips together in one place!
The Med School bundle and books inspired me to restructure how I studied anki, pomodoro, different types of note taking etc. All these were extremely helpful in identifying where my strengths and weaknesses lie.
The eBook Bundle is an excellent product to learn about better strategies to study and learn in medical school. The bundle provides excellent preparation and mindset to excel in medical school.
I am still working through it, but I am really enjoying it and would recommend them to anyone who is trying to solidify their study routine. I especially love the honest writing style of all of the resources and your ability to connect with the reader.
The bundle and the books are filled with helpful tips that have given me a better idea of how I should be studying in med school! They also touch on life in med school and how to succeed while still maintaining some sanity, which I haven't found in other books! I have greatly enjoyed these books and will definitely be referring back to them in the future!
They were very helpful on how to create a study plan.
I like how specific the recommendations are. Reading and using the resources are to the point and very easy to follow. I definitely will be trying the Anki card method.
Goodness, I'm so glad that I read through this bundle during pre-med! I'm looking forward to trying out the efficient and high-yield study methods that I learnt in this book. Having some practice with them will definitely be a game-changer for medicine!
All of your courses and ebooks are fantastic, truly incredibly helpful.
I appreciate the simple, easy-to-follow guides with different tips for different learning styles.
The book and the rest of the bundle were simple and concise. I was able to take what i needed, and apply it to my up coming exams.
Very helpful, easy-to-understand language and concepts and not too long! Would definitely recommend to other students.
I loved the books, since I'm not having clinic now because of COVID I'm only reading for now the med school guide, honestly the ALL the tips have been so helpful, I was doing flashcards the wrong way and almost all my study was passive and I didn't even knpw it. Midterms are in September and I'm confident my grades will improve with what I know now, just wish I had all this information and tips at the beginning but well better late than never. Also thanks to you I started waking up at 5 am Every day and my day is more productive (Sorry for my English I'm not a native speaker)
The ebook bundle was incredibly helpful, I loved how short and to the point the materials were- perfect for busy students. I also thought you provided some awesome action steps and study plans that might work for different people!
The bundle itself was very helpful. I could use the suggested strategies immediately after reading.
Books were useful, esp making flash cards per topic & your system for smoother workflow.
The survival guide is helpful in getting me it the right mind set for medical school. It is also helping with the anxiety that I was experiencing in regards to the amount of information needed to learn in medical school. I find myself even more excited to start medical school and use the tips you offered. I am glad that I found this blog and bundle before I went to medical school and I plan on referencing many times throughout this journey.
The Domination bundle was super helpful .The most important thing I realized is about active studying rather than passive recall Which makes all the difference.I also really love your ideas about residency about how we can do a great job For example taking the responsibility
The tips are really good and super easy to implement. I have already started with the Anki decks as well as doing practice questions first. It is so much more efficient. I also really appreciate the resources that you recommended for each specialty.
Overall it was very useful and I got perspectives which I didn't consider before. I can't wait to try your version of the anki method of studying and nail the morning routine.
I've gotten a lot of information on studying techniques. I haven't quite made it through all of the bundle yet but as far as the how to study in medical school and the preclinical guide go I've learned a lot especially on beefing up my resume and meal prepping.
Very informative, easy to follow and clear.
I haven't been able to read through all of them yet but so far what I have read has been very helpful and insightful. I like that you lay out exactly what to do and show real examples of what and how you do it.
The eBook bundle was excellent. I haven't actually started medical school yet (about 3 weeks to go!), but reading the information about resources and strategies have helped me build up a game plan for how I want to tackle my subjects. I flew through the preclinical guide eBook and am currently about 50% of the way through the How To Study in Medical School eBook. What I found especially helpful were the resources for specific classes that you discuss in the preclinical guide, and I will definitely be following your Anki + practice problems + making questions study suggestions.
I have so far only read most of the Pre-Clinical Guide and I really find all the tips so beneficial! I'm glad I bought the ebook Bundle and can't wait to finish the books.
